That was the bold prediction of Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang speaking from the recent Reuters Technology Summit held last Monday in New York. According to Huang “The Android phone took only two and a half years to achieve the momentum that we’re talking about … I would expect the same thing on Honeycomb Tablets.”
The CEO of the Tegra 2 makers has been both an open critic and avid supporter of the Google Android Operating System. Admitting that Android tablets initially were hampered by lack of marketing exposure and technical glitches. Accounting to only less than 10% of the tablet market last year with Apple reigning on the 90% with 15 million iPad sold. It was the problem with pricing and performance that haunted some initial Android tablets made out of Froyo 2.2 or later version of the OS.
Jen-Hsun Huang , however, is optimistic that Honeycomb 3.0 and the recent follow up 3.1 will give the necessary boost to the Android Tablet sector, after developers start taking advantage of the new OS specifically made for the tablet. He added that in order for Android to dominate in the tablet platform, there should be a side by side revving-up on both its hardware and software. Meaning that makers should come up with better models of tablet devices as well as more interesting games and apps that harness the full potential of the Honeycomb System.
Alongside with these developments in software, Nvidia is poised to raise the bar on CPU competition with its upcoming quad-core Kal-El mobile processor.
